Ira Bhaskar (Retired)

Ira Bhaskar is Professor of Cinema Studies at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. 

Her publications have focused on ‘historical poetics’; literature and film; forms of Indian melodrama; historical trauma and memory and Islamicate forms and histories. She has co-edited Bombay Cinema’s Islamicate Histories (2022) with Richard Allen; has edited and annotated the first volume of Ritwik Ghatak’s Partition Quartet: Nagarik (2021); has co-authored with Richard Allen, Islamicate Cultures of Bombay Cinema (2009); She is currently working on the other volumes of Ghatak’s Partition Quartet and on her book on Trauma, History and Memory in Indian cinemas.
