Anil C Menon’s film is a clear departure from the usual Malayalam film in its use of exotic foreign locales, in this case London and parts of Scotland. Malayalam films’ low budget aesthetic and realist dramas had little money or use for foreign locations. Menon wanted to break this trend by showcasing the life of wealthy Malayalis abroad as represented by the protagonists of the film’s love triangle played by Prithviraj, a rich spoilt business man engaged to the daughter of a business tycoon - Pavitra (played by Andrea Jeremiah). Later in the film. Prithviraj falls in love with a nurse of limited means, Merin played by Nanditha Raj, for whom he breaks off his engagement and gives up his business prospects – the sacrifice for love that will make Prithviraj a true Malayali gentleman. Critics panned the film’s vacousness while applauding its visual appeal. “London Bridge is a triangular love story happening in London and has got a kind of freshness in its visuals but lacks the same in its narrative”, wrote a critic from Muyal Media. Almost all of London including its most iconic landmarks, its shimmering river Thames and the pretty countryside are shown in the course of the film. The protagonist’s wealthy lifestyle gives occasion for a lavish display of high-end sports cars and convertibles, rich and elaborate mansions, castles, plush hotels and plenty of opportunities for fine dining. This particular song sequence in the film introduces us to the hint of a possible romance between Prithviraj and Andrea and gives us an indication of their characters as well as their class locations and outlook on life while moving the romance plot of the narrative forward. In this sequence we see Prithviraj driving his red Ferrari, dressed flashily like a rich man about town, his sunglasses and trousers matching the red car (a reviewer remarks on the popular hero’s ‘weird fashion sense’), he speaks on jauntily to his fellow rider Andrea who pretends to be unimpressed by him and even interrupts his conversation, every once in a while, to speak to callers on her phone. The song’s rich background score and catchy lyrics activate a ‘postcard imagination’ of the familiar city. The song opens with an aerial view of London, and as they drive past the city, several high angle and panoramic shots map the city’s iconic and picturesque locations including Lambeth bridge, Big Ben, Notting Hill, Thames Walk et al, while London Bridge in all its ancient splendor returns as leitmotif for the bridge that joins hearts, and in this case also class. Setting out from central London the scene maps the city through several cutaways interspersed with closeups of the romantic couple and their interactions in the car until they reach the outskirts of the city.
