Aap Kaa Surroor/Joy: The Real Love Story

The film begins with the discovery of the dead body of a TV journalist named Nadia Merchant (Marrissa Lawrence) somewhere remote in Germany. A well-known Indian singer, HR (Himesh Reshammiya), is arrested by the German police for the murder of the journalist. With HR behind bars, Aap Ka Suroor moves into flashback mode. During a concert in Germany, HR performs with his best friend Shravan (Shravan Rathod) and falls in love with Riaa Bakshi (Hansika Motwani), an event planner. Initially disapproving of this match, Riaa's father, Mr. Bakshi (Sachin Khedekar), finally relents.

Trouble starts when HR is arrested and requests advocate Ruby James (Mallika Sherawat) to help him get bail. We soon learn that Ruby is in love with HR, who is in love with Riaa. HR manages to escape from prison and takes the murdered TV journalist's father, an ex-cop named Feroz Merchant (Raj Babbar), hostage. HR knows he must find the real killer within a day, or he will lose Riaa to someone else.

Ruby is approached for help by HR, Shravan, and Bani (Gurbani, playing Riaa’s friend). They realise that Khurana (Darshan Jariwala) framed HR as part of a revenge plan for losses incurred by the former during an earlier world tour. HR confronts Khurana, and after a car chase, he extracts a confession from Khurana, about how Nadia was murdered by him to frame HR. This confession is caught on camera, Khurana is arrested, and HR and Riaa are back together.

    Film Location Analysis

    By Kaushik Bhaumik

The film is set entirely in Germany. However, use of locations is very limited. The songs ‘Tera Mera Milna’ and ‘Tanhaiyan’ are shot in unidentifiable outdoor locations. ‘Tanhaiyan’ cuts between multiple locations. The focus of both songs is on the pristine cleanness of the air and space that allows a ‘clean’ look to the songs. Street scenes are shot in formulaic ways. ‘Tera Mera Milna’ focuses on some Neo-Baroque buildings and a square with a column in some sequences. In ‘Tanhaiyan,’ we have the shot of a neon-lit giant ferris wheel and a snowy landscape, both involving Reshammiya. Otherwise, most of the film is shot indoors, and outdoor sequences are shot in stock non-descript locations.

At the 1hour 40 minute point, there is a tense face-off between the hero, villain, and the German police that takes place on a bridge mentioned as ‘Heidelberg Bridge,’ and resembling the Karl Theodor Bridge in Heidelberg. However, Heidelberg is not mentioned as a shooting location for the film.
